A Career Etched in Domestic Glory

The 35-year-old retires as one of Gujarat’s most successful and consistent performers. He amassed 8,856 runs in 127 first-class matches at an average of over 45, making him Gujarat’s second-highest run-scorer, just 19 runs shy of former wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel’s tally.

Panchal holds the record for most first-class centuries (23) by a Gujarat batter. His most iconic innings came in 2016, when he scored an unbeaten 314—a defining moment in his career and in Gujarat cricket history.

His final appearance came during the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy semi-final against Kerala, where he signed off with a commanding 148, although Gujarat lost the match on first-innings lead.

Leadership & Legacy

Panchal captained Gujarat and India A across formats, earning widespread respect for his calm demeanor, tactical acumen, and consistency with the bat. Under his leadership, Gujarat experienced a golden era in domestic cricket:

  • Ranji Trophy Champions (2016-17)
  • Vijay Hazare Trophy Champions (2015-16)
  • Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Champions (2012-13 & 2013-14)

In addition to his first-class record, Panchal featured in:

  • 97 List A matches, scoring 2,940 runs with 7 centuries.
  • 59 T20s, contributing significantly during Gujarat’s white-ball campaigns.

He was also a regular face in India A squads, often leading the side on overseas tours and in domestic tournaments as part of the national team’s grooming structure.

A Gentleman of the Game

Despite never earning a senior India cap, Panchal remained one of domestic cricket’s most admired professionals—valued for his discipline, temperament, and unwavering commitment to the game.

His contributions to Gujarat cricket are considered foundational, having mentored several younger players and led the team through a transitional phase with distinction.

Looking Ahead

As he transitions into “greener pastures,” Panchal is expected to remain associated with the sport, possibly in a coaching, mentoring, or administrative capacity within the domestic cricket ecosystem.
