A foreign tourist visiting the Taj Mahal in Agra, India, had an unexpected and funny turn of events when she became the main attention. Aaliyah Denning, the tourist, posted a brief video online showing the moment her trip turned into an unplanned picture shoot.
In the viral video, Denning poses for a photograph with an Indian man while a group of his buddies stands nearby, eagerly snapping pictures on their own phones. Denning wrote a funny description for the video, which has been seen over five lakh times. It said, “When you come to India for the attractions and you become the tourist attraction.”
Denning added a funny remark to her lengthy caption, saying, “This was so funny.” A couple occasions this has happened. It was hard for me to get away in Egypt. I don’t want to be famous if this is what it’s like. “No, thank you, haha.”
Different Reactions and Shared Experiences Online
The video got a lot of people talking, and a lot of them had similar stories to tell from their own journeys.
Some users didn’t like the attention, but others thought it was funny and respectful. Someone spoke forward and asked, “What is their problem?” What if Americans did this to people from India? Another person said, “This happened to me too,” which was similar to the incident. People kept chanting “Barbie” at me and demanding to take pictures with me.
On the other hand, a lot of comments saw the contact as a chance to learn about another culture:
One person said they thought there was “nothing wrong with it,” which could mean that “Some rural people don’t see people of different colors.” I had a good time with it…
Another person said something good: “I had the same thing happen.” But not one rude or touchy interaction. At no point did I feel uncomfortable or bad.
Some people said it felt like being a “celebrity,” and one person compared it to similar experiences in Zambia.
Overall, even while some people thought the attention was inappropriate, many travelers said the encounters were usually polite and based on interest.
