Foreign Woman’s First Indian Meal Goes Viral, But Social Media Says She Ordered The ‘Most Basic Thing’

NEW DELHI— A video of a foreign woman trying Indian food for the first time has gone viral on social media, prompting a spirited discussion over the best way to enjoy the dish. The woman, who uses by the name @V1CERR on X, posted a series of images of her order with the statement, “Ordered Indian food I don’t know how nun of this taste wish me luck.” Butter chicken, garlic naan, keema samosa, and mango lassi were some of the popular but easy-to-find foods she ate.

The user posted an update after her post got a lot of attention, saying how much she liked the dinner. “Ya’ll, it was good as* and whoever made that mango lassi is getting f**ked tonight,” she commented, evidently impressed. She also seemed shocked by the negative comments about her choice of butter chicken, saying, “Didn’t know butter chicken had such a poor rep omg???? It was the most popular item on the menu.

The post immediately got about 14 million views, and thousands of people shared their thoughts on it. Some people felt that the food was a good way to get to know the cuisine, but a lot of people said she played it too safe.

“One user said, “You ordered the most simple item ever,” and several others agreed. Someone else said, “Mango lassi isn’t even popular in India.” I wonder why everyone who eats Indian food abroad has it on their menu. A few others used the chance to offer more daring choices, and one individual told her to “go into deep territory and open the biryani menu.”

Another user gave a long list of ideas, such as “aloo paratha, paneer (the most popular is palak paneer), chole bhature, dal makhni, dum aloo, beef curry + Malabar parota, dosa + sambar + fresh coconut chutney.” The user also told her to try foods from different parts of India, like “Nagaland, Kashmir, Tibet/Himalayas, Goa, and Rajasthan.”

The conversation brings up a typical complaint among food lovers and Indian internet users: they think that the world only knows about a few Northern Indian dishes and doesn’t know about the wide range of regional cuisines.
