New Delhi [India]: Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri‘s visit to Japan reinforced the strong and enduring friendship between the two nations, rooted in shared values, mutual trust, and a commitment to regional stability, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
Misri, in his first official visit to Japan on November 27 in his current role, engaged in a series of meetings with senior Japanese officials.
A statement from the MEA highlighted key developments during the visit:
- Misri conducted the first round of Dialogue on Economic Security, focusing on Strategic Trade and Technology, and held the FS-Vice Ministerial Dialogue with Masataka Okano, Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan.
“During the Dialogue on Economic Security, Strategic Trade and Technology, the two sides covered topics related to economic security, supply chain resilience, and partnership in critical and emerging technologies,” the release stated.
- At the FS-Vice Ministerial Dialogue, the discussions spanned the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership, covering political relations, defence and security, economic cooperation, people-to-people ties, and other regional and international issues.
Foreign Secretary Misri also engaged with other senior Japanese officials:
- Takehiko Matsuo, Vice-Minister for International Affairs, Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry, discussed economic and high-technology cooperation.
- Keiichi Ichikawa, Deputy Secretary General of the National Security Secretariat and Assistant Chief Cabinet Secretary, addressed security and economic partnerships.
- Yoshimichi Terada, Vice-Minister for International Affairs, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism, reviewed progress on the MAHSR (Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail) project.
Additionally, Misri interacted with Japanese policymakers and officials from key ministries and agencies, including the Ministry of Environment, JETRO, JICA, and JAXA, underlining cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
This visit reinforced the depth of the India-Japan partnership, focusing on collaboration in strategic and economic spheres while emphasizing the shared commitment to regional stability and progress.
