New Delhi [India]: Foreign policy analyst Robinder Sachdeva has voiced strong support for India’s recent decision to ban all imports from Pakistan, describing it as a bold and necessary action in the wake of heightened tensions between the two countries
Sachdeva called on citizens in India and around the world — including the Indian diaspora — to back the government’s stance and push for a broader boycott of Pakistan. “This is exactly the right move,” he said. “Now we must say just a few words: Boycott Pakistan. Our government is doing it, and the people of India should join in. The world should boycott Pakistan, and no new investments or partnerships should be made with them.”
Sachdeva emphasized that such collective action could significantly damage Pakistan’s trade, economy, and global reputation.
He also praised recent diplomatic developments, notably Angola’s assumption of the African Union chairmanship, viewing it as a sign of India’s growing influence in the Global South. “This shows our increasing reach and strengthening relationships, especially regarding issues like terrorism and views on Pakistan. Africa shares our perspective, and that is a powerful message,” he noted.
India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry announced the immediate prohibition of all goods originating from or exported by Pakistan — whether directly or indirectly — on May 3. The ban covers all categories of imports regardless of previous permissions or trade agreements.
The ministry cited national security and public policy concerns as the rationale behind the decision, noting that exceptions would require prior approval from the Indian government.
The move follows a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, where 26 tourists lost their lives, an incident that has severely strained India-Pakistan relations.
