Los Angeles [US], July : Legendary rock band Foo Fighters have returned with a brand new track titled Today’s Song, marking their first release since their 2023 album But Here We Are. The song arrives as the band celebrates its 30th anniversary.
The release was accompanied by a heartfelt letter from frontman Dave Grohl, who paid tribute to former band members, including recently departed drummer Josh Freese, founding drummer William Goldsmith, guitarist Franz Stahl, and most poignantly, the late drummer Taylor Hawkins, who passed away in 2022, Deadline reported.
In an emotional note addressed to Hawkins, Grohl, who reportedly plays drums on the new track, wrote, “Your name is spoken every day, sometimes with tears, sometimes with a smile, but you are still in everything we do, everywhere we go, forever. The enormity of your beautiful soul is only rivaled by the infinite longing we feel in your absence. We all miss you beyond words. Foo Fighters will forever include Taylor Hawkins in every note that we play, until we do finally reach our destination.”
Described in a press release as the band’s “opening salvo of its next chapter,” Today’s Song is the Foo Fighters’ first new music since Grohl revealed last year that he had fathered a daughter outside of his marriage and publicly sought forgiveness from his family.
The release marks a significant milestone, coming 30 years after the band’s self-titled debut album, as Foo Fighters look ahead to their next era while honoring their past.
