Flight Disruptions Continue Across Northern India Amid Operation Sindoor; IndiGo, Air India, SpiceJet Cancel Multiple Routes

New Delhi [India] : Following directives from aviation authorities in light of the ongoing Indian Armed Forces’ Operation Sindoor, IndiGo Airlines has announced the suspension of flight operations to and from 11 cities until 5:29 AM IST on May 10. The move comes amid heightened security concerns and temporary airport closures triggered by India’s precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).

Affected cities include:

  • Srinagar
  • Jammu
  • Amritsar
  • Leh
  • Chandigarh
  • Dharamshala
  • Bikaner
  • Jodhpur
  • Gwalior
  • Kishangarh
  • Rajkot

In its official travel advisory posted on X (formerly Twitter), IndiGo stated:
“In line with directives from aviation authorities regarding airport closures, we’re cancelling all flights to/from these cities until May 10. We’re monitoring the situation closely, and further schedule adjustments may follow. Passengers are advised to check flight status before travel.”

Air India and SpiceJet have also announced similar cancellations, affecting key northern air corridors. Air India’s advisory includes airports such as Bhuj, Jamnagar, and Leh, while SpiceJet has restricted operations from several northern sectors.

Ladakh Hotels Step Up to Help Stranded Tourists

In a compassionate response to the disruption, the All Ladakh Hotel and Guest House Association (ALHGHA) has announced free stays for stranded tourists until flights resume.
“Guests whose outbound flights have been cancelled will be provided complimentary stays at the same hotels where they are currently staying,” said the association’s president in a statement.

BJP MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal lauded the gesture on X, calling it a “true reflection of Ladakh’s spirit of hospitality and patriotism.”

Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack on April 22, has led to successful strikes on nine terror camps—four in Pakistan and five in PoJK—with no civilian casualties or targeting of military installations, as confirmed by India’s Ministry of Defence.
