New Delhi [India], June 10: In a continued crackdown on illegal immigration, the East District Police of Delhi apprehended five Bangladeshi nationals, including three minors, during a raid in the Anand Vihar area on Tuesday, officials confirmed.
The arrests were made under a special drive launched by Delhi Police to identify and take action against foreign nationals residing illegally in the capital. The individuals had reportedly entered India through unauthorised riverine routes along the Indo-Bangladesh border and were living in the city without valid documentation.
According to an official release, the Special Staff team, led by Inspector Jitendra Malik and supervised by ACP Operations Pawan Kumar, conducted the operation based on specific intelligence inputs.
“The apprehended individuals failed to produce any proof of Indian citizenship during sustained interrogation,” the release stated. “Digital documents related to Bangladeshi citizenship were also recovered from their mobile phones.”
The accused were identified as Shafiqul Islam (39), a native of Sadar Lalmonirhat, Bangladesh, his 34-year-old wife, and their three minor children. They had been residing illegally in East Delhi, attempting to avoid detection.
Authorities have confirmed that deportation proceedings have been initiated in coordination with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Delhi, and the legal process is being followed.
This operation is part of an ongoing special drive launched on November 19, 2024, by the East District Police. So far, 25 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants have been identified and deported, the statement added.
The Delhi Police reiterated its commitment to maintaining internal security and enforcing immigration laws. Search operations and intelligence gathering will continue in the district to detect more illegal immigrants.
