Mumbai – Aryan Khan’s much-anticipated directorial debut, The Ba*ds of Bollywood, is just hours away from its official release on Netflix, but a few lucky members of the Hindi film industry have already gotten a sneak peek. A special screening of the first episode was held in Mumbai on Wednesday night, hosted by Shah Rukh Khan and Netflix, for a select group of celebrity friends. The first reactions are now pouring in, with filmmaker Rahul Dholakia leading the praise.
Dholakia, who directed Aryan’s father in the film Raees, took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account to share his review. He lauded the show’s entertaining and satirical tone, writing, “Not Star but ***’s are born!! What an entertaining and spoofy goofy first episode of #aryanKhan’s @NetflixIndia show!!! Bhai Binge Karna padega!!!”
The filmmaker also extended his congratulations to the show’s writing team and producers, Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan, for creating a “winner.” He acknowledged the immense hard work that went into the project, stating, “I know the hard work that’s gone into this baby – 6 years or so!! Amazing @gaurikhan @iamsrk! It’s the ‘writing on the screen’ that makes the magic – & Ofcourse the Direction.”
The Ba*ds of Bollywood is a self-aware, spoofy take on the Hindi film industry. The series follows the journeys of two young actors: Aasmaan, an outsider, and Karishma, a star kid. The first episode’s screening has generated considerable buzz, with Dholakia’s positive review setting high expectations for the show. He urged the public to “watch it – binge watch it!” and concluded with a strong message of encouragement for the young director, “Kid you killed it!!”
The series is now set to stream on Netflix, and its reception among the general public will determine whether Aryan Khan has a hit on his hands with his first venture behind the camera.
