First Indian Navy Training Squadron Arrives In Vietnam

Cam Ranh Bay [Vietnam]: The First Training Squadron of the Indian Navy arrived at Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam, on February 20, marking a significant step in bolstering the strategic partnership between the two maritime nations, the Ministry of Defence announced.

Warm Welcome & Strengthened Cooperation

The squadron’s ships, INS Sujata and ICGS Veera, received a warm reception from the Vietnam People’s Navy and representatives of the Indian mission in Vietnam. The visit aims to further strengthen the longstanding maritime cooperation between India and Vietnam.

During the port call, several engagements are planned, including:
Cross-training visits between naval personnel
Professional and community interactions
A visit to the Vietnam Naval Academy

The visit will conclude with bilateral exercises involving the Vietnam People’s Navy and Coast Guard, enhancing interoperability and sharing best practices.

Growing India-Vietnam Maritime Partnership

India and Vietnam share a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which was further solidified during the Vietnamese Prime Minister’s visit to India in August 2023. The Indian Navy’s visit underscores the commitment to maritime security, training exchange, and regional stability.

The Ministry of Defence emphasized that this deployment aligns with India’s SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) initiative, which focuses on capacity building and maritime security cooperation.
