Chamoli (Uttarakhand) [India], May 24: The first group of Sikh devotees for the 2025 Shri Hemkund Sahib Yatra, led by the Panch Pyaras, commenced their sacred journey on Thursday, carrying the Nishan Sahib (holy Sikh flag) under full police protection, according to Chamoli Police.
In a post on X, the police stated:
“Shri Hemkund Sahib Yatra 2025: The first group of Sikh devotees, led by the Panch Pyaras, has set out for Shri Hemkund Sahib with the Nishan Sahib and complete police security.”
The portals of Hemkund Sahib, perched at over 15,000 feet above sea level near Joshimath, are set to open on May 25. Each year, lakhs of devotees undertake the challenging pilgrimage to this revered shrine dedicated to Guru Gobind Singh.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, addressing the media during the send-off, highlighted the state’s comprehensive arrangements for a safe, smooth, and eco-friendly yatra.
“The doors of Shri Hemkund Sahib will open on May 25. All the arrangements have been made for the devotees,” he said.
CM Dhami also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for approving ropeway projects to Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib, which he said would ease the difficult terrain for future pilgrims.
“We welcome all devotees from across the country and the world,” he added.
Uttarakhand Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) echoed these sentiments, praising the administration and Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee for their efforts.
“We see it as ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’. I thank all those working to ensure the success of every devotee’s visit,” he remarked.
CM Dhami also urged pilgrims to honour security forces and follow traditional pilgrimage norms, especially as over 11 lakh devotees have already participated in this year’s Char Dham Yatra.
He emphasised the government’s commitment to a plastic-free, environmentally conscious Hemkund Sahib Yatra, stating:
“The Hemkund Sahib area has a rich ecosystem. We have pledged to protect it. Please respect nature and the rules set by our ancestors.”
As the shrine opens, authorities have ensured tight security, medical support, and logistical amenities for the safety and convenience of the pilgrims.
