Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh) [India], January 30: A fire broke out on Thursday at 15 unauthorized tents in an open area near Chatnag Ghat Police Station in Prayagraj.
Firefighters quickly responded to the scene and managed to bring the blaze under control. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported, according to officials.
“We received reports of a fire affecting 15 tents in the Chatnag Ghat Police Station area. We acted promptly, and the fire was successfully extinguished,” said Pramod Sharma, an official from the UP Fire Department.
The tents involved in the incident were unauthorized, as confirmed by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM). “The tents were erected without permission. The situation is now under control, and there have been no casualties,” Sharma added.
This incident follows a previous fire at the Maha Kumbh, caused by an explosion of three cooking gas cylinders, though no casualties occurred in that event either.
In a separate, tragic incident on Wednesday, a stampede at the Maha Kumbh left 30 people dead and 60 others injured. The Uttar Pradesh government has since announced financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh for the families of the deceased, and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered a judicial inquiry into the incident, with a report expected within a specified time.
The Maha Kumbh, which began on January 13, will continue until February 26. The upcoming significant bathing dates include February 3 (Basant Panchami—Third Shahi Snan), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri).
