A fire broke out in a Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) road dust cleaning vehicle near the Telangana State Assembly in Hyderabad in the early hours of Sunday, officials said.
The incident occurred around 1 am, when the vehicle was cleaning roads near the Assembly premises. According to fire officials, the driver noticed the blaze in time and escaped safely without any injuries. Two fire engines rushed to the spot and managed to control the flames, but the vehicle was completely gutted.
A fire department official stated, “The GHMC road cleaning vehicle suddenly caught fire while operating on the road. Thankfully, the driver evacuated immediately. Two fire tenders controlled the fire quickly, preventing any further damage. There were no casualties reported. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.”
Further details on the cause of the fire are awaited.
Earlier this week, Hyderabad narrowly avoided a major fire disaster at Garden Tower apartments near First Lancer, thanks to the rapid response of the Telangana Dial-112 emergency system, operated by the Telangana State Integrated Command and Control Centre (TGICCC).
A preliminary investigation indicated that an electrical short circuit in an air conditioner unit sparked the fire. The incident posed a high risk as the apartment building is located near a school and a petrol pump, increasing the potential for widespread danger.
A distress call was received via the Dial-112 emergency number at 10:17 AM on June 16, 2025, triggering an immediate multi-agency response. The system integrated services such as Police (100), Fire (101), Ambulance (108), Women’s Safety (181), Child Protection (1098), and Disaster Management (1077).
Fire units and the Masabtank Police arrived within minutes and swiftly doused the flames, preventing a larger catastrophe. All residents were safely evacuated, and no injuries or casualties were reported.
These incidents highlight the importance of vigilant emergency systems and quick response coordination, which continue to safeguard Hyderabad’s citizens from potential disasters.
