Washington DC [US], March 25: The highly anticipated film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel Verity is finally set to hit theaters next year on May 15. The adaptation, produced by Amazon MGM’s Studio, stars Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett in the leading roles. Directed by Michael Showalter, the script is penned by Nick Antosca.
The gripping story follows struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh, who is hired under mysterious circumstances to ghostwrite for renowned author Verity Crawford. As she delves deeper into the project, she uncovers chilling autobiographical notes that reveal deadly family secrets. The discovery blurs the lines between fiction and reality, especially as Lowen finds herself growing closer to Verity’s enigmatic husband, Jeremy.
The film adaptation has seen various writers work on the script, including Hoover, Lauren Levine, Hillary Seitz, Angela LaManna, Will Honley, and April Maguire. The production team includes Antosca, Alex Hedlund, Stacey Sher, Showalter, Jordana Mollick, Hathaway, and Hoover.
Verity follows in the footsteps of Hoover’s previous novel adaptation, It Ends With Us, which was a major box office success. The 2023 film, starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, grossed over $346 million globally.
Originally self-published by Hoover in 2018, Verity became a New York Times Bestseller and sold over a million copies in 2023 alone. The novel was later acquired by Grand Central Publishing in 2021.
In addition to her role in Verity, Dakota Johnson, known for her role in Fifty Shades of Grey, was last seen in the Marvel film Madame Web. She will also star in upcoming projects Materialists and Splitsville.
