Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister, Manoa Kamikamica, paid a courtesy visit to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar, engaging in discussions about fostering mutual cooperation in various sectors, including agriculture, dairy, renewable energy, and technology.
Key Highlights of the Meeting:
- Agriculture and Dairy Industry:
The Deputy PM expressed interest in leveraging Gujarat’s global expertise in agriculture and dairy, seeking to replicate similar advancements in Fiji. - AI, ICT, and Cybersecurity:
Discussions included the potential for collaboration in artificial intelligence, information and communication technology (ICT), and cybersecurity, underscoring the importance of technology-driven development. - Renewable Energy Leadership:
CM Bhupendra Patel highlighted Gujarat’s pioneering efforts in renewable energy and green hydrogen, including the construction of the world’s largest hybrid renewable energy park in Kutch. He also emphasized the state’s waste-to-energy initiatives, such as biomass, biogas, and biofuel, which align with Fiji’s interests. - Ethanol Production:
The Deputy PM noted Fiji’s significant sugarcane production and expressed readiness to support Gujarat in ethanol production, presenting an opportunity for mutual growth in the energy sector.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties:
The meeting also reflected on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s contributions to Gujarat’s development as a growth engine during his tenure as Chief Minister, and his visit to Fiji in 2014. CM Patel invited a high-level Fijian delegation to Gujarat to study its development model and policy frameworks, aiming to foster a strong and effective partnership between Gujarat and Fiji.
Vision for the Future:
The Chief Minister affirmed Gujarat’s commitment to achieving PM Modi’s vision of “Developed India @ 2047,” with a roadmap emphasizing ease of doing business and sustainable growth. Gift City’s emergence as an international financial hub and Gujarat’s leadership in innovative sectors were also showcased.
Visit Schedule:
As part of his trip, Deputy PM Manoa Kamikamica will tour Gift City and Amul-Anand to observe Gujarat’s achievements in finance and dairy. Senior officials from Gujarat, including Additional Chief Secretary MK Das, Principal Secretary of the Industries Department Mamata Verma, and CM’s Secretary Avantika Singh, participated in the discussions.
