Former West Indies speedster Fidel Edwards has showered praise on India’s pace spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah, calling his “craft” something “special” to watch. Bumrah, known for his unique action, has set the international circuit on fire with his deceptive deliveries. His unorthodox motion involves a couple of steps to get into rhythm, followed by a shift in gears to charge up. He then extends his arm to get the angle right and uses his wrist to deliver a variety of unpredictable variations.
Edwards, who himself was known for one of the most exciting fast-bowling actions in cricket, believes Bumrah is the “best” fast bowler in the world. “If you watch Jasprit Bumrah, he is one of the best; he is probably the best fast bowler. His craft is something special to watch,” Edwards told media.
Bumrah’s performances have been iconic, particularly his heroic contributions to India’s T20 World Cup title win in Barbados last year. He was also instrumental in India’s historic Test series win in Australia, where he displayed unmatched resilience and shattered numerous records, redefining the art of fast bowling.
Currently, Bumrah is recovering from a lower back injury, which ruled him out of India’s triumph at the Champions Trophy on Sunday. At 31, he has an impressive tally of 443 wickets in 204 matches, boasting an outstanding average of 20.46 and a strike rate of 33.22. Virat Kohli has famously described him as a “national treasure.”
Edwards, meanwhile, is reliving his playing days at the ongoing International Masters League (IML) 2025 in India. He represents the West Indies Masters, who have qualified for the semi-finals after a spectacular victory over the South Africa Masters. The West Indies Masters are now gearing up for the final, set to take place on March 16.
Reflecting on his experience, Edwards shared, “It has been a great experience. Sachin (Tendulkar), (Jacques) Kallis and all these guys are legends to me. The standard of the tournament is good. The crowd has been fantastic so far.”
