Fatal Midtown Manhattan Shooting: Officer And Civilians Killed, Suspect Neutralized

NEW YORK, NY— On Monday, July 28, 2025, a mass shooting happened near a corporate office building in Midtown Manhattan. Five individuals died, including an off-duty New York Police Department (NYPD) officer and the only suspect. The incident happened next to 345 Park Avenue, a 634-foot-tall skyscraper that is home to headquarters for big companies like the NFL and Blackstone, an investment group.
The catastrophe happened next to 345 Park Avenue, a 634-foot-tall skyscraper that is home to headquarters for big companies like the NFL and financial firm Blackstone.

Jessica Tisch, the head of the NYPD, said that the only shooter has been “neutralized.” She wrote on X, “The scene is now under control and the lone shooter has been neutralized.”

Several law enforcement agencies, including CNN and ABC News, say that the gunman, 27-year-old Shane Devon Tamura from Las Vegas, was wearing body armor and carrying a powerful weapon. Around 6:30 PM local time, Tamura started shooting near the valet parking area and then went into the building.

At first, reports said that one NYPD officer and two civilians were hurt. But new evidence from other sources, including the Associated Press, now shows that there were more deaths. One of the people that died was an off-duty police officer who was manning security at the facility. Also, two civilians died, and at least three others were hurt, some of them very badly. The gunman was found dead on the 33rd floor, where he had locked himself in and shot himself in the head.

The NYPD sent bomb squads and drones to the scene, and heavily armed officers kept the area safe during the evening rush hour. Mayor Eric Adams of New York City acknowledged that the inquiry is still going on and told those who live near the area to stay inside and be safe.

“I was at the shooting in Midtown, and I can now say that the shooter has been stopped. The NYPD is currently meticulously searching 345 Park Avenue. Please stay where you are if you are in the building. “People have been shot and hurt, and I will be going to the hospital soon,” Mayor Adams wrote on X.

Dan Bongino, the FBI’s deputy director, also said that FBI agents were on the site helping the NYPD. “The FBI is at the crime scene in Manhattan. The NYPD is in charge of this inquiry right now. Our staff is there to help them with their work. Bongino wrote on X that “Motive is currently under investigation.”

The police are still investigating the shooting and have not confirmed any prior relationship between the suspect and the victims or the building.
