Farooq Abdullah Reaffirms Commitment To Restoring Statehood In Jammu And Kashmir

Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir), March 6 – National Conference president Farooq Abdullah expressed his strong commitment to restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, stating, “Inshallah, statehood will come soon.” He shared his optimism with reporters on Thursday.

In a related political discourse, Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary criticized former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, attributing the region’s loss of statehood and special status to her actions. “Mehbooba Mufti can say anything because she is the reason for the destruction of J&K,” Choudhary remarked.

Earlier, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha addressed the inaugural session of the J-K Legislative Assembly’s Budget Session on March 3, reaffirming his government’s commitment to restoring statehood. He emphasized that the restoration of full statehood is a primary aspiration of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, and his government is actively engaging with all stakeholders to ensure peace, stability, and progress in the region.

The National Conference’s manifesto for the Jammu and Kashmir elections prominently includes the restoration of Article 370, reinstatement of statehood, and implementation of the autonomy resolution. This comes in the wake of the central government’s decision in August 2019 to repeal Article 370, which revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
