Family Recalls IAF Pilot Rishi Raj killed In Jaguar Plane Crash

CHURU, RAJASTHAN: A Jaguar trainer aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed on Wednesday afternoon during a routine training mission, resulting in the deaths of both pilots aboard. The aircraft came down in an agricultural field near Bhanoda village in Churu district around 1:25 PM.

The IAF confirmed the tragic loss of Flight Lieutenant Rishi Raj Singh and Squadron Leader Lokender Singh Sindhu, and stated that no civilian property or lives were harmed, thanks in part to what eyewitnesses described as the pilots’ efforts to steer the aircraft away from populated areas.

🚨 The Fallen Officers

Flight Lieutenant Rishi Raj Singh, a native of Pali district, Rajasthan, was described by his cousin Harshraj Singh as a bright, humble, and dedicated young officer whose career had only just begun. Rishi was selected into the National Defence Academy (NDA) on his first attempt and had quickly risen as a promising figure in the IAF.

“He was very bright, had a good nature, and was a great brother. I have never seen his father cry until now,” said Harshraj, speaking to PTI.

Squadron Leader Lokender Singh Sindhu, 32, hailed from Kheri Sadh village in Haryana’s Rohtak district. A highly respected officer, he had recently become a father on June 10. His wife, Dr. Surbhi Sindhu, was at her parental home in Hisar when she received news of the accident.

“He died serving the nation and saving civilians. My family and I are immensely proud of him,” said his brother Gyanendra, speaking to ANI.

🛫 Crash Circumstances & Technical Fault

The aircraft reportedly developed a technical malfunction mid-flight, and the pilots attempted to divert the aircraft away from a densely populated area, according to Gyanendra.

He noted that:

“They succeeded in steering the plane away, but the aircraft got dangerously close to the ground. In a Jaguar Trainer, if altitude falls below 500 feet, ejection becomes impossible. That’s why they couldn’t eject.”

🕵️‍♂️ Investigation Underway

The Indian Air Force has ordered a court of inquiry to determine the exact cause of the crash. Preliminary indications point to technical failure, but a full investigation will assess the flight data, maintenance history, and potential mechanical issues.

The nation mourns the loss of two brave pilots, remembered for their courage, professionalism, and ultimate sacrifice in service to India.
