Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], January 16: Following the news of an attack on actor Saif Ali Khan by an intruder at his Mumbai residence, family members and close friends have gathered at Lilavati Hospital.
On Thursday, Saif’s wife, actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, was spotted arriving at the hospital, followed by Saif’s sister, Soha Ali Khan, and her husband, actor Kunal Kemmu. His children, Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan, also visited their father.
Saif sustained a thoracic spinal cord injury, as confirmed by Dr. Nitin Dange of Lilavati Hospital.
“Saif Ali Khan was admitted to the hospital at 2 am with injuries sustained from an alleged assault by an unknown person. He suffered a major injury to his thoracic spinal cord due to a knife lodged in his spine. A surgery was performed to remove the knife and repair leaking spinal fluid,” Dr. Dange explained.
The actor also sustained deep wounds to his left hand and neck, which were treated by the plastic surgery team.
“He is now completely stable and recovering well, out of danger,” Dr. Dange added.
Earlier, Saif’s team issued a statement confirming his recovery. “Saif Ali Khan has come out of surgery and is out of danger. He is currently in recovery, and the doctors are monitoring his progress. All family members are safe, and the police are investigating the incident.”
They also expressed gratitude to the medical team at Lilavati Hospital: “We would like to thank Dr. Niraj Uttamani, Dr. Nitin Dange, Dr. Leena Jain, and the team at Lilavati Hospital. Thank you to all his fans and well-wishers for their prayers and thoughts during this time.”
Dixit Gedam, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Zone 9, Mumbai Police, revealed that one suspect had been identified in connection with the attack.
“We discovered that the accused used the fire escape to enter the building. The investigation suggests it was an attempted burglary. We are working to apprehend the accused as soon as possible. Once arrested, further details will be disclosed,” DCP Gedam stated.
The attack took place at Saif’s residence in the ‘Satguru Sharan’ building in Bandra, where the intruder allegedly confronted Saif’s maid. When Saif intervened to defuse the situation, a physical altercation ensued, leaving him injured. He was subsequently rushed to Lilavati Hospital for treatment.
