Ex-Punjab DGP Mustafa, Wife Razia Sultana Booked In Son’s Alleged Murder Case

The Haryana Police on Tuesday booked former Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Mohammad Mustafa and his wife, former minister Razia Sultana, in connection with the alleged murder of their 35-year-old son, Aqil Akhtar, in Panchkula.

The case took a chilling turn when Shamshudeen Chaudhary, a family acquaintance from Malerkotla, held a press conference highlighting Aqil’s social media post from August in which he made explosive allegations against his family.

‘I Have Discovered My Wife’s Affair with My Dad’

In the now-viral post and accompanying videos, Aqil Akhtar accused his father, mother, and aunt of conspiring to frame or kill him.

“I have discovered my wife’s affair with my dad. I am under extreme stress and mental trauma… I feel every day that they will frame me in a false case,”
Aqil said in one of the videos reportedly recorded weeks before his death, according to media.

He further accused his mother, Razia Sultana, and sister of being “part of the conspiracy,” claiming their plan was to have him “falsely imprisoned or killed.”

“They threaten me that if I take any step against them, they will get me framed in a rape or a murder case,” he alleged.

Aqil also claimed he was illegally confined in a rehabilitation centre, despite being sober, and that his family had taken away his money.

“Somebody please help me. Somebody please save me,” he pleaded in one of his clips.

Retraction Video Raises More Questions

In a later video, Aqil appeared to retract some of his previous statements, saying he was suffering from schizophrenia and had been unwell.

“I was suffering from schizophrenia… I was unwell, so I did not understand anything. I am better now. I want to say sorry… Thank God I am blessed with such a family. Let’s see what happens,”
he said.

However, the video ended ominously, with Aqil saying,

“Will they get me killed? They are all scoundrels.”

Police Confirm FIR Based on Social Media Evidence

Confirming the developments, Panchkula Deputy Commissioner of Police Srishti Gupta said that Aqil’s social media posts and videos raised suspicion about his death.

“A complaint was received which said the family members played a role in his death. The social media posts, videos, and photographs raised suspicion, based on which the FIR was filed,” she said.

Aqil, who leaves behind his wife and two young children, was the only son of the prominent political couple.

About Mohammad Mustafa and Razia Sultana

Mohammad Mustafa, a 1985-batch IPS officer, had served as DGP of Punjab Human Rights Commission, while his wife Razia Sultana was a minister in the previous Congress government in Punjab.

The case has sent shockwaves through political and police circles in Punjab and Haryana, given the high-profile status of the accused.
