Bengaluru (Karnataka), April 22: Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda on Tuesday confirmed the arrest of the wife of former Karnataka DGP Om Prakash in connection with his alleged murder, following a complaint filed by his son that raised suspicions against both his mother and sister.
“Based on the complaint, a murder case has been registered. The complainant has raised suspicion towards his mother and sister. Based on our preliminary investigation, the mother has been arrested,” Commissioner Dayananda told reporters at a press conference.
Given the sensitive nature of the case, he said the investigation has now been transferred to the City Crime Branch (CCB), which will take charge of further inquiries.
The incident came to light on Sunday, when Om Prakash was found dead at his residence in HSR Layout, a prominent residential area in Bengaluru. The former Director General and Inspector General of Police (DGP & IGP), belonging to the 1981 IPS batch, was cremated with full state honours on Monday.
Reacting to the development, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara described the situation as “unfortunate” and confirmed that an investigation is underway. “They say the former DGP was murdered by his wife, but until we get the report, we can’t conclude anything,” said the Home Minister. “He was a very good man and officer.”
Additional Commissioner of Police (East), Vikas Kumar, provided details about the timeline, stating that police received information about the death between 4 and 4:30 PM on Sunday. He noted that Om Prakash’s son has submitted a formal complaint, and an FIR has been registered accordingly.
While no motive has been officially confirmed, Kumar stated that early findings suggest the incident may have stemmed from internal family matters, but further investigation will reveal more details.
As of now, the case remains under active investigation, with authorities seeking clarity on both motive and circumstances surrounding the death of the high-profile former police officer.
