New Delhi [India]: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the families of each of the 12 people who tragically lost their lives in a road accident in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur district on Sunday. Additionally, the injured will receive Rs 50,000, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
“Saddened by the loss of lives in an accident in Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon,” the PMO post read.
Details of the Tragic Accident
The accident occurred when a speeding van collided with a motorcycle and subsequently plunged into a deep well in the Narayangarh police station area.
Police officials confirmed that 12 people, including the biker and a brave rescuer, died in the incident. Four others were successfully rescued and admitted to the nearest hospital.
State Government Steps In
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also announced financial assistance:
- Rs 2 lakh each for the families of the deceased
- Rs 1 lakh for the seriously injured
- Rs 50,000 for those with minor injuries
“Sad news has been received about the untimely death of twelve people due to a car falling into a deep well. I pray that the family members find the strength to bear this immense loss,” CM Yadav posted on X.
Rescue operations were swiftly carried out by the local administration, and post-mortem procedures for the deceased are underway.
Heroic Sacrifice: A Rescuer’s Brave Attempt
In a remarkable act of courage, a villager named Manohar climbed into the well and managed to save six people, including two children. Tragically, he lost his own life in the process. His body has been recovered, according to Mandsaur SP Abhishek Anand.
“This is an extremely heart-wrenching incident, and we express our deepest sympathy to the affected families,” SP Anand said.
All legal formalities related to the incident are being completed, officials confirmed.
