Ex-Diplomat KP Fabian Questions ‘Dangerous Regime’ Tag On Iran Amid US-Israel Strikes

Former Indian diplomat KP Fabian has strongly criticised the US and Israeli narrative portraying Iran as the “most dangerous regime,” arguing that Tehran has not initiated attacks on any nation for more than two decades.

Speaking to media in the wake of the US and Israel’s coordinated strikes on Iranian nuclear sites—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan—Fabian said, “Whom did Iran attack in the last 20 years? Nobody. So Trump’s description of Iran as the most dangerous regime is absolutely wrong. In fact, it’s America who has been attacking—just recall Iraq and Afghanistan.”

Commenting on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Fabian remarked, “Netanyahu has started this aggression. Israel has waged several wars. So who is really the dangerous regime here?”

On the US strikes, Fabian said the offensive was unsurprising, especially given Trump’s warning of “action within two weeks” during his recent statements. “Most thought he was giving diplomacy a chance. But ‘within two weeks’ meant at any time, and the strikes came in two days. It was classic misdirection.”

Discussing possible regime change in Iran, Fabian dismissed such prospects: “There’s confused talk about regime change and collapse. Regime collapse often leads to anarchy and civil war, like Libya. But I don’t see US or Israeli troops entering Iran—it would be suicidal. The casualties would be huge, and Trump can’t afford that.”

He added that Iran’s internal unity has paradoxically strengthened post-strikes: “Reports suggest that even Iranians critical of Ayatollah Khamenei are rallying around him. This is natural when a country faces an external threat.”

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump hailed the “massive precision strikes” on Iran’s nuclear sites and warned Tehran of further consequences if peace was not achieved soon.

Israel’s Netanyahu praised Trump, stating history will remember the US President for acting against “the world’s most dangerous regime possessing the world’s most dangerous weapons.”

Iran condemned the attack, calling it “savage aggression and a violation of international law,” and accused the IAEA of complicity. It has demanded urgent action from the UN Security Council, stressing that the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) was breached.

The conflict, now in its ninth day, has sharply escalated since Israel’s Operation Rising Lion, which targeted Iranian sites on June 13. In retaliation, Iran’s IRGC launched Operation True Promise 3, striking Israeli military energy assets.

With no diplomatic solution in sight, experts warn that the crisis could spiral further, dragging more regional and global players into direct conflict.
