Washington [US], June 15 : Brad Garrett, best known for his role as Robert Barone in the iconic sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond, has confirmed that a reboot of the beloved show is not in the works — and likely never will be.
In an interview with People magazine, Garrett explained that the passing of co-stars Peter Boyle (Frank Barone) and Doris Roberts (Marie Barone) has left an irreplaceable void in the show’s core dynamic.
“There is no show without the parents. They were the catalyst, and to do anything that would resemble that wouldn’t be right to the audiences or to the loyal fan base,” Garrett said.
He emphasized that the heart of the sitcom lay in the back-and-forth between the two generations of the Barone family. Without that central chemistry, he feels a revival wouldn’t capture the same magic.
His comments echo the feelings of co-stars Ray Romano and Patricia Heaton. Romano previously voiced concern that reboots rarely live up to the original, especially after the loss of key cast members. Heaton, who played Debra Barone, called the show “perfection” and added, “You don’t wanna mess with perfection.”
Everybody Loves Raymond aired from 1996 to 2005, running for nine successful seasons and earning 15 Emmy Awards. Its impact on television comedy endures, and reruns continue to entertain new and old fans alike.
While a reboot may never happen, the original series remains available for streaming on Peacock and Paramount+, keeping the legacy of the Barone family alive.
