SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA – Erika Kirk, the widow of conservative broadcaster Charlie Kirk, spoke publicly for the first time since her husband’s death on Sunday. She gave a moving tribute that included reading his favorite Bible scripture. The 31-year-old founder of Turning Point USA was shot and killed at an event at Utah Valley University on September 10. Tyler Robinson is the suspect who has been detained.
Erika spoke a verse that was very important to her late spouse during a live stream on The Charlie Kirk Show’s YouTube page. Ephesians 5:25 (New International Version) says, “Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.”
BibleRef.com says that this line is part of a larger text about marriage duties. It tells husbands to love their wives in a way that is unselfish and sacrificial, like Jesus loved the church. It stresses care, respect, and sacrifice.
Erika’s voice shook with emotion as she talked about her husband, calling him a brave and faithful man. She remarked, “Charlie always said he wanted to be remembered for his faith and bravery when he was gone.”
She thought of the things he loved, including his family and his hobbies. “He enjoyed his life. He adored the United States. He liked nature, which helped him get closer to God all the time. He liked the Chicago Cubs and, oh my gosh, he loved the Oregon Ducks.
But she also said that his love for his family was the most important thing. “Charlie loved his kids more than anything else, and I knew that every day. He loved me with all of his heart.”
Erika also took the stage to thank President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and their wives, Usha and Melania, for their help during this hard time. She spoke directly to the president and said, “My husband loved you, and he knew that you loved him too.” He did. Your friendship was great. You helped him so much, and he helped you too.
Erika ended her speech by saying that Charlie will now “stand at his savior’s side wearing the glorious crown of a martyr.”
