NEW YORK, NY— Two of Jeffrey Epstein’s victims have strongly condemned the Trump administration and the Department of Justice (DOJ) for their recent efforts to make grand jury testimony public in the criminal case against him. On Monday, August 4, 2025, two unnamed victims sent separate letters to a Manhattan court. In them, they expressed deep worry and said that government officials have not listened to the concerns of people who were hurt by Epstein’s acts.
The victims asked that any data relating to the Epstein case be carefully looked over before being made public in order to safeguard their anonymity. Their request comes at a time when there is a lot of debate over the Trump administration’s decision last month not to produce documents that might show some of Epstein’s clients. After people were angry, Attorney General Pam Bondi sought courts in New York and Florida to make public grand jury documents that were used in the investigation and prosecution of Epstein for sex trafficking.
“I’m not a pawn in your political war.”
One victim stated in a letter full of strong feelings that they were “disdainful, disgusted, and afraid” of how the Justice Department had handled the commitment to reveal information in the case. The victim said that the incident should have been handled with “more respect toward and for the victims.”
The victim wrote, “I’m not a pawn in your political war.” “What you have done and are still doing is eating at me every day as you help to keep this story going.” Why not be absolutely open? Show us all the files with only the redactions that are needed! Stop it and let me/us heal. You protect yourself and your powerful and affluent “friends” (not foes) over the victims. Why?
This strong statement makes it clear that the victims feel that their safety and privacy are being put second to political games.
Requests for a Third-Party Review and Redactions
Another victim wrote a separate letter to US District Judge Richard M. Berman, who is one of the judges in charge of the cases. This victim asked that a third party be brought in to look over any records that are going to be released to make sure that no victims’ names or pictures are made public. The victim wrote that the letter made them feel very suspicious because it seemed like the Justice Department’s main goal was to protect “wealthy men.”
The victim added, “It blows my mind to learn that our own president has used thousands of agents to protect his identity and these famous people.” “That is what they are focused on?” Wow!
This comment is similar to a previous report from Bloomberg News that said the FBI took President Trump’s name and other well-known people out of government files pertaining to Epstein. The report says that the names were kept secret to safeguard their privacy because they were private people when the FBI inquiry into Epstein started in 2006.
Legal and Congressional Consequences
On July 18, the US government officially asked US District Judges Richard M. Berman and Paul Engelmayer to make public the transcripts of the case against Epstein and his longtime business partner, Ghislaine Maxwell. The judges told the victims they had until Tuesday to answer to these requests, which led to the letters that were sent out recently.
When asked for comment, spokespeople from the Justice Department did not react right away. Donald Trump has said before that he was friends with Epstein, but he says that association terminated years before Epstein died.
Ghislaine Maxwell, who is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for helping Epstein sexually assault teenage women, has been a crucial player in recent events. Last month, she met with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche in a low-security prison in Tallahassee, Florida. She has also been ordered to testify before Congress concerning Epstein. Maxwell is said to be asking for immunity in exchange for her testimony. She has now been sent to a Texas prison with low security.
