Epstein Files Spark Fresh Controversy In India After Email Mentions Abuse Victim Living In The Country

The so-called Epstein files have once again drawn global attention, this time with a reference to India emerging in newly released documents by the US Justice Department (DoJ). According to the documents, an email dated January 13, 2020, mentions a victim of abuse “living in India,” triggering renewed scrutiny and discussion about the international reach of Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged crimes.

The email exchange reportedly revolves around extending compensation and therapy support under victim assistance programmes to individuals identified in New York and Florida. In the communication, the names of both the sender and the recipient have been redacted, as have the identities of the victims mentioned in the correspondence.

Email Mentions Indian Connection

In the email chain, the sender seeks information about the victim residing in India, stating:

“And lastly regarding the individual located in India. If you can get me her address and contact information; I will coordinate with our colleagues at the embassy there.”

A follow-up email sent hours later confirms the victim’s location in India and raises questions about providing assistance, asking whether she would still be eligible for therapy sessions and what resources could be offered locally.

“Finally — is currently living in India. Is there anything that can be done to help her? Would she still be eligible to receive six free sessions over there? Are there any resources that can be offered in India?”

These references have sparked significant interest and speculation in India, although the documents do not provide any personal details about the victim or further context about her identity or circumstances.

Global Row Over Epstein Files

The latest revelations are part of a broader release of Epstein-related documents mandated under the Epstein Files Transparency Act (EFTA). The law, passed by the US Congress and signed by former President Donald Trump, required the full release of Epstein-related records by December 19, 2025, as part of transparency commitments to lawmakers and the public.

Since the disclosures began, the files have triggered widespread controversy worldwide, with the records containing travel logs, emails, recordings, and references to high-profile individuals who had some form of contact with Epstein. Epstein, who was accused of running an international sex trafficking network along with associate Ghislaine Maxwell, died in custody in 2019 while awaiting trial.

High-Profile Names in Records

In the latest tranche of documents, the US Department of Justice released a list of roughly 300 politicians, business leaders, celebrities, and public figures whose names appear in Epstein-linked records. The list includes current and former political leaders, global business figures, and celebrities such as Donald Trump, Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Bill Gates, Prince Harry, Woody Allen, Kamala Harris, Mark Zuckerberg, Bruce Springsteen, Elon Musk, Pope John Paul II, Nancy Pelosi, Hakeem Jeffries, and Beyoncé, among others.

However, the DoJ has cautioned that the appearance of a name in the documents does not imply wrongdoing. Many individuals are mentioned only in passing references, media reports, or unrelated contexts that do not directly link them to Epstein’s crimes or his associate Maxwell.

Ongoing Debate

The mention of an alleged victim living in India underscores the global scope of Epstein’s abuse network and has reignited debates about accountability, transparency, and support for victims across borders. As more documents are analysed, further revelations are expected to emerge, keeping the Epstein case firmly in the spotlight years after his death.
