England Names Squads For India Tour And 2025 Champions Trophy

New Delhi [India], December 22: The England Cricket Board (ECB) unveiled its squads for the upcoming white-ball tour of India, which will include three ODIs, five T20Is, and the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025.

Key Highlights:

  • Joe Root’s Return: Experienced batter Joe Root makes his return to the ODI side after featuring in England’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign. Root, with 171 ODIs, 6,522 runs, and 16 centuries to his name, will play in the ODI series and Champions Trophy, strengthening England’s lineup.
  • Ben Stokes Missing: All-rounder Ben Stokes, recovering from a left hamstring injury sustained during the Test series against New Zealand, has been left out of the squad.
  • Tour Details: England’s tour will kick off with a five-match T20I series starting January 22, followed by a three-match ODI series in February. The ICC Men’s Champions Trophy will take place in February-March 2025.
  • Squad Composition: Both squads, led by Jos Buttler, feature a blend of youth and experience. The T20I squad includes 20-year-old spinner Rehan Ahmed, while the ODI and Champions Trophy squads will feature Root.

Schedule:

  • T20I Series: The T20I series begins on January 22 in Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, with matches scheduled in Chennai, Rajkot, Pune, and Mumbai until February 2.
  • ODI Series: The ODI series will start on February 6 in Nagpur and conclude in Ahmedabad on February 12.
