Encounter Underway In Udhampur, Jammu & Kashmir; 2–3 Terrorists Trapped

Udhampur (Jammu and Kashmir), April 9: A fierce encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in the Jopher village area of Udhampur district on Wednesday, according to officials. The operation was initiated during a search mission conducted jointly by the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) and other security agencies in the dense forested area under PS Ramnagar’s jurisdiction.

Officials confirmed that a group of 2 to 3 terrorists was encountered during the search operation. The area has since been cordoned off to block any escape routes, and security forces have launched a coordinated offensive to neutralize the threat.

“The operation is ongoing and the area is under a tight cordon,” a senior police officer said.
“Efforts are being made to ensure the safety of civilians while dealing with the terrorists.”

The identity and affiliation of the militants are yet to be confirmed. This is a developing situation, and further details are awaited as the operation progresses.

Background:
The encounter comes amid a recent uptick in militant activity in certain parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces have ramped up combing operations in sensitive areas to preempt infiltration and acts of terror ahead of the summer season and the upcoming general elections.
