Washington DC [US], June 12: Actress Emily Blunt has officially confirmed that the long-awaited sequel to The Devil Wears Prada is set to begin production next month, as reported by Deadline.
While remaining tight-lipped about major details, Blunt did reveal during an interview with Entertainment Tonight that she will return as her fan-favorite character Emily Charlton. “Am I allowed to say that?” she laughed, turning to her rep before sharing the news. “Can you tell I’m skirting the issue? Can you tell I can’t tell you anything?”
Blunt admitted she hasn’t yet read a script and is eager to discover what the sequel has in store. “It’s so weird, I haven’t even read a script. I don’t know. I’m just like, ‘Where is she?’ I don’t know,” she said.
Aline Brosh McKenna, the screenwriter behind the original 2006 hit, will return to pen the sequel. David Frankel, who directed the first film, is also set to return.
The original Devil Wears Prada, which premiered 20 years ago this month, starred Anne Hathaway as aspiring journalist Andy Sachs and Meryl Streep as the icy fashion editor Miranda Priestly. The film became a cultural touchstone and earned Streep an Oscar nomination.
According to Deadline, the sequel is being developed by Disney and is scheduled to hit theaters on May 1, 2026. Though full casting has not been officially confirmed, Blunt is expected to reunite with both Hathaway and Streep.
While the plot remains under wraps, speculation suggests it may draw inspiration from Lauren Weisberger’s 2013 novel Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns, which follows Andy as the editor of a bridal magazine, preparing for her wedding and dreading a potential run-in with Miranda.
Fans can expect more details to emerge as production kicks off in the coming weeks.
