Emilia Perez Triumphs At The 82nd Golden Globes, Leads Big Wins On A Glamorous Night

Los Angeles (California) [US], January 6: The 82nd Annual Golden Globe Awards saw Emilia Perez close the night with a spectacular win, taking home the coveted Best Picture – Musical or Comedy award. Directed by Jacques Audiard, the film dominated the evening, earning a total of 10 nominations, a record for the ceremony, surpassing Barbie’s nine nominations from the previous year, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Emilia Perez secured the prestigious award after overcoming stiff competition, including Wicked, cementing its place in Golden Globe history. The film’s lead actress, Karla Sofia Gascon, delivered an emotional acceptance speech, passionately affirming the film’s core message. “You can maybe put us in jail, you can beat us up, but you never can take away our soul, our existence, our identity,” Gascon said, adding, “I am who I am, not who you want.”

The ceremony, held live at The Beverly Hilton, kicked off the 2025 awards season with a star-studded celebration, as Hollywood’s elite graced the red carpet. Celebrities including Angelina Jolie, Cate Blanchett, and Ariana Grande made appearances, adding glamour to the evening.

Beyond Emilia Perez, the night saw several other notable victories. Hacks claimed the award for Best TV Series – Musical or Comedy, while Baby Reindeer triumphed as Best Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Movie Made for TV. The acclaimed Emilia Perez also won Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language, defeating contenders like The Seed of the Sacred Fig and Vermiglio. The film’s song El Mal, composed by Clement Ducol, Camille, and Jacques Audiard, won Best Original Song – Motion Picture.

Zoe Saldana won Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture for Emilia Perez, while Peter Straughan was honored with the Best Film Screenplay award for Conclave. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross took home Best Original Score for Challengers, and Flow was named Best Animated Film. Wicked received the award for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement.

The evening also celebrated legendary careers with the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award presented to Viola Davis and the Carol Burnett Award to Ted Danson, both of whom were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the industry.

The ceremony, broadcast live on CBS and streamed on Paramount+ in the U.S., was also available for Indian audiences via Lionsgate Play. The night’s festivities were enhanced by the Golden Gala, where the winners and honorees basked in their well-deserved recognition.
