Emergency Public Review: Fans Calls Kangana’s Political Drama A “Must-Watch”

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India]: Actress and Bharatiya Janata Party MP Kangana Ranaut’s highly-anticipated film Emergency premiered in theatres today, January 17. Although the political drama had a slow start at the box office according to early estimates, it has garnered positive feedback from moviegoers.

Directed by Kangana herself, the film delves into the historical Emergency period declared by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi from 1975 to 1977. Set against this critical time in Indian history, the film has struck a chord with the audience, especially in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, where viewers shared their thoughts after watching the first half.

“The first half was really good. The characters have been portrayed well, the cinematography is impressive, and the acting is excellent. So far, I’m enjoying it,” said Shyam, a moviegoer, to ANI after the interval.

Another viewer, Nikhil, echoed similar sentiments, adding, “The film has shown events up to 1975 so far, and it’s amazing. It’s a must-watch for the younger generation to understand India’s past. Kangana Ma’am’s portrayal of Indira Gandhi is unbeatable—no one else could have played this role better. I’m excited to see the second half.”

Responses from Kanpur theatres also reflected enthusiasm for the film. “This is an outstanding film. Kangana Ranaut has done a fantastic job as both an actress and director. Her performance as Indira Gandhi is exceptional,” said Garvit, a fan, after watching the movie.

Rajkumar, another viewer, added, “The film is very well-made. I hope Kangana creates more amazing movies like this in the future.”

Despite its lukewarm start at the box office, Emergency features a stellar cast, including Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, and the late Satish Kaushik.
