Singer-songwriter and pianist Elton John made a memorable appearance on a recent episode of Saturday Night Live, where Jack Black served as the host.
During the show, Elton John and Brandi Carlile performed “Little Richard’s Bible” from their newly released collaborative album Who Believes in Angels?, according to People.
Later in the episode, the duo returned to the iconic Studio 8H stage to perform the title track from the same album.
This marked John’s return to SNL after more than a decade. He last appeared on the show in April 2011, when he served as both host and musical guest. His debut on the show dates back to April 1982, where he performed as a musical guest.
Brandi Carlile celebrated her third time on SNL. She previously appeared as a musical guest in October 2021 and again in December 2022, as reported by People.
Elton John’s performance came during a challenging time for the artist, who recently shared his health issues. In September 2024, he revealed that he is battling partial blindness due to a severe eye infection, describing his recovery as “an extremely slow process.”
In an emotional update on Instagram, the Grammy-winning musician spoke about his health condition:
“Over the summer, I’ve been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye,” he stated.
He further explained that while he is on the road to recovery, regaining full vision will take time.
“I am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks,” he wrote.
Elton John and Brandi Carlile’s musical bond dates back to 2009, when Carlile wrote him a letter asking him to play piano on her song “Caroline” from her album Give Up the Ghost, as reported by People.
Their enduring collaboration and heartfelt performance on SNL marked a powerful return for Elton John and a celebration of artistry and resilience.
