Washington [US]: Legendary musicians Elton John and Brandi Carlile have announced the release of their highly anticipated collaborative album, “Who Believes in Angels?”. Alongside the album announcement, they have shared the title track and a documentary trailer that takes fans behind the scenes of their creative process.
The Journey Behind the Album
In the trailer, Elton John reveals that the album came at the end of a transformative year following his Goodbye Yellow Brick Road Tour. He expressed his desire to do something fresh and not just “coast” in his career, and he found a kindred spirit in Brandi Carlile, a long-time fan who turned out to be a perfect collaborator.
“When I met her I fell in love with her, and I just thought she had the most amazing voice,” John said. He also noted that he knew Carlile would inspire him, just as he hoped to inspire her.
Challenges in the Studio
Despite the excitement, the process of making the album was far from smooth. John admitted that he faced personal struggles during the recording. “I was exhausted, I had a lot of doubt, and I was a nightmare — angry, I was tired, I was irritable,” he revealed. He even recalled moments of tension in the studio, including an instance where he tore up a sheet of music and threatened to leave.
Brandi Carlile acknowledged the intensity of the process, saying, “There were times where I thought, ‘Why does he want to do this? Why is he going from Glastonbury to making an album with me?'” But she also emphasized that the challenges ultimately brought out great music, describing it as a “place where such great music came from.”
The End Result
Despite the hurdles, both artists agree that the final product is something extraordinary. “We made an album that I think is spectacular for all the ages,” Carlile noted. “This is one of the greatest musical experiences of my life,” added John. The duo has described the album as immaculate, and Carlile is confident that the work will resonate across generations.
Album Release and Special Concert
“Who Believes in Angels?” is slated for release on April 4. To kick off the launch, John and Carlile will perform at a one-night-only concert at the London Palladium on March 26, where fans will get a chance to experience the album live.
Fans of both Elton John and Brandi Carlile are eagerly awaiting the release of this new collaboration, which promises to be a unique and powerful musical journey.
