Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has firmly rejected allegations linking him to disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, following the release of a massive cache of documents by the US Department of Justice (DoJ).
The DoJ recently made public more than three million documents related to Epstein, reigniting scrutiny of several high-profile figures across politics, business and entertainment. Among the newly released materials were emails that appeared to suggest past communication between Epstein and Musk, including references that Musk had allegedly shown interest in visiting Epstein’s private island in 2012 and again in 2023.
Musk Pushes Back, Calls Allegations “Relentless Smears”
Responding to the claims, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO took to X (formerly Twitter) to categorically deny any association with Epstein. Musk accused sections of the media and political adversaries of orchestrating a smear campaign in response to his long-standing demand for transparency in the Epstein case.
“Nobody has fought harder for full release of the Epstein files and prosecutions of those who abused children more than I did,” Musk wrote, adding that he fully expected backlash for pushing for accountability.
He said that efforts to expose wrongdoing would inevitably provoke attacks from what he described as “legacy media” and political propagandists, who would, he claimed, “admit nothing, deny everything and make counter-accusations.”
‘Never Been on His Plane or Island’
Musk was unequivocal in denying the most serious implications raised by the document disclosures. He stated that he never attended Epstein’s parties, never travelled on Epstein’s private jet—infamously dubbed the “Lolita Express”—and never set foot on Epstein’s private island.
“I knew that I would be smeared relentlessly, despite never having attended his parties or been on his ‘Lolita Express’ plane or set foot on his creepy island or done anything wrong at all,” Musk said.
‘Painful, But Worth It’
The billionaire entrepreneur acknowledged that the allegations have taken a personal toll, calling the accusations deeply painful, but said he was prepared to endure them if it helped bring justice to victims.
“Even though it’s incredibly painful to be accused of being the opposite of who I am, it was worth it,” he wrote.
Reiterating his stance on protecting vulnerable individuals, Musk said safeguarding children must remain a priority.
“The strong must protect those who cannot protect themselves, particularly vulnerable children,” he added. “I am willing to endure any future pain if it helps safeguard kids and give them a chance to grow up with happy lives.”
Documents Don’t Automatically Imply Wrongdoing
The controversy comes amid renewed public and legal focus on Epstein’s global network, triggered by the DoJ’s release of emails, contacts and references linked to the late financier. Legal experts have repeatedly stressed that being mentioned in the documents does not automatically imply criminal wrongdoing.
Musk’s response joins a growing list of public denials issued by prominent figures whose names have surfaced in the disclosures, as debate continues over accountability, transparency and how the newly released records should be interpreted.
