Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India]: British singer Ed Sheeran’s live performance on Church Street was abruptly halted by Bengaluru police on Sunday. Authorities stated that the event did not have official permission, while Sheeran’s team maintained that it was a brief act with prior approval.
A viral video circulating online captures the moment when Sheeran began singing his hit song Shape of You, only for the police to intervene within a minute and disconnect the cables.
Explaining the reason behind stopping the performance, DCP Central Bengaluru, Shekar T Tekkannanavar, said, “Chetan, a member of the organizing team, came to me seeking permission for the concert on Church Street. I clearly rejected it, saying that Church Street becomes too congested. As per the high court order, many evacuations have been done from the area, so we did not permit Ed Sheeran to perform. That is why he was asked to vacate the place.”
Sheeran is currently on his India tour, having already performed in Hyderabad and Chennai. During his Chennai concert, he shared the stage with legendary composer AR Rahman, performing a special rendition of the classic song Urvashi.
Before the concert, Sheeran also met AR Rahman and his son AR Ameen. Rahman later shared pictures of their meeting on Instagram, showing Sheeran posing at his music console with the caption, “Photos by Ed Sheeran.”
The singer is scheduled to perform in Shillong and Delhi NCR in the coming days.
