Washington [US], March 17: Ed Sheeran recently surprised fans in New Orleans with an impromptu performance, showcasing his new single “Azizam” for the first time ever. The singer-songwriter carried a portable amp and microphone and was soon joined by The Soul Rebels brass band, who previously performed with Kendrick Lamar during the Super Bowl halftime show.
Sheeran shared with the crowd that it was the first time he had ever performed the song live. “We’re gonna do one song here, we’re filming a bit of content – and then we’re going to do a parade and walk down and play some songs if you want to come with us,” he announced to the excited crowd.
The singer also revealed that a new song would be released in a couple of weeks and that this street performance would be the first live rendition of “Azizam.” He further shared on Instagram, “Playing some new music today on the streets of New Orleans with @thesoulrebels thanks to everyone who turned up!”
In February, Sheeran attempted a surprise street concert in Bengaluru, India, but was stopped by local authorities. After a fan-captured video of the incident surfaced online, the singer reassured his followers on Instagram that “all good” and clarified that they had prior permission to perform at the spot.
Sheeran is set to release his eighth studio album, Play, later this year, following the success of his 2023 album Autumn Variations.
