Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], February 10: British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran mesmerized fans in Bengaluru during his ‘+ – = / x’ India tour, delivering an unforgettable concert.
The highlight of the night came when Sheeran was joined by renowned Indian singer Shilpa Rao on stage for a performance of the Telugu song ‘Chuttamalle,’ marking an iconic collaboration. Sheeran’s rendition of the hit song, originally sung by Rao, was met with loud applause from the audience.
The British artist also performed some of his global hits, including ‘Perfect’ and ‘Photograph,’ but it was his rendition of the Telugu song that added a unique flavor to the evening. Sharing a snippet on Instagram, Sheeran expressed his admiration for Shilpa Rao’s voice and his excitement at learning a new language: “Obsessed with @shilparao’s voice for the last while, a real privilege to share the stage tonight, and learn a new language!”
Church Street Incident: Police Intervention During Impromptu Performance
Before the concert, Sheeran faced an unexpected setback during an impromptu performance on Church Street. A viral video showed the Bengaluru Police abruptly stopping Sheeran’s performance by unplugging the speaker cables just a minute into the performance.
In response, Sheeran clarified that his team had secured prior permission for the impromptu performance. However, Shekar T Tekkannanavar, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for Central Bengaluru, explained the situation, stating that the request for permission was denied due to the crowded nature of Church Street. He confirmed that Sheeran was asked to vacate the area for safety reasons.
Sheeran’s Ongoing India Tour
Sheeran is currently touring India and has already performed in Hyderabad and Chennai, where he collaborated with legendary composer AR Rahman. The two music icons performed a rendition of ‘Urvashi’ during the Chennai concert. Sheeran also met Rahman and his son AR Ameen before the show, with Rahman sharing photos of the encounter on Instagram.
Sheeran’s India tour continues with upcoming performances in Shillong and Delhi NCR in the coming days.
