Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], February 6: Wednesday night became unforgettable for music lovers in Chennai as they experienced an electrifying performance by music maestro AR Rahman alongside British singer Ed Sheeran during the latter’s Mathematics tour.
The duo left the audience in awe as Rahman joined Sheeran on stage for an unforgettable moment. The two artists not only interacted with fans but also performed a remix of Ed’s hit song “Shape of You” combined with Rahman’s iconic track “Urvasi.”
Hours after their performance, Ed Sheeran took to Instagram to express his appreciation for sharing the stage with Rahman. “What an honor @arrahman,” he wrote, conveying his gratitude for the collaboration.
Ed Sheeran began his + – = / x India tour with a stunning performance in Pune on January 30. Wearing a “Pune” t-shirt, he celebrated the city as the crowd erupted in excitement. During the concert, Sheeran took a moment to reflect on his past performances in India, mentioning that this was his third visit, having performed twice before in Mumbai. He also expressed how every visit to India makes him feel like a tourist and how thankful he is for the opportunity to connect with Indian fans.
The concert in Pune was opened by singer-actor Dot., who is best known for his role in “The Archies.” The gig was also attended by members of the England cricket team, including skipper Jos Buttler and all-rounder Liam Livingstone. Buttler, speaking with BookMyShow Live, shared his enthusiasm about touring India. “I’ve been coming to India for a long time. It is the best place to tour. Their love for the game is unmatched compared to other places in the world. It’s always a pleasure to come back,” Buttler said. He also mentioned how delighted he was to be at Ed’s concert, adding, “It’s great that the stars aligned and we were in Pune at the same time.”
Ed Sheeran’s Mathematics tour, organized by AEG Presents Asia and BookMyShow Live, will conclude with a performance in Delhi-NCR on February 15.
