European Commission President Ursula Von Der Leyen To Visit India On Feb 27-28, Marking Milestone In India-EU Ties

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will embark on her first official visit to India on February 27-28, 2025, accompanied by the European Union College of Commissioners, marking a pivotal moment in India-EU relations.

Speaking about the visit, Herve Delphin, Ambassador of the Delegation of the European Union to India, described it as a “highly symbolic” occasion that underscores the importance the EU places on its partnership with India.

“This will be an important week for EU-India relations. For the very first time, the President of the European Commission and the entire College of Commissioners—equivalent to a full EU government—will come to Delhi for two days of talks. This speaks volumes about how much the EU values its relationship with India. We both see each other as partners of choice and forces for good,” Delphin said.

Delphin emphasized the importance of stabilizing global forces during these times. He noted that discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President von der Leyen will focus on exploring the full potential of the India-EU partnership.

“In this world, at this moment, we need stabilizing forces. Conversations between Prime Minister Modi and President von der Leyen, along with interactions between EU commissioners and Union Cabinet ministers, aim to elevate our partnership to a new level. This visit will set the stage for what we hope will be a rich and rewarding 2025, culminating in an EU-India summit and the adoption of a new strategic agenda,” Delphin added.

According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, the two-day visit is expected to cover key areas including trade, technology, sustainability, and geopolitical cooperation.

The visit signifies a growing alignment between India and the European Union on global issues, with both sides seeking to bolster economic cooperation and strengthen their strategic partnership in the evolving global order.
