The Election Commission of India (ECI) has made its fight with the Congress party much worse by reviewing the facts of a video that the party released on its official X (previously Twitter) account. The ECI said that the video was “AI-generated” and that it was “clearly meant to mislead the voters of Bihar.”
The video, which is similar to claims made by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, shows people saying that votes had been “stolen” by portraying living citizens as dead and signing up bogus voters at their residences. There is a note in the video stating it was made by AI. The Congress tweet asked people to join Gandhi’s “Voter Adhikar Yatra” in Bihar, which is a protest against what they say are problems with the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter records.
The ECI’s fact-check said that the SIR process in Bihar is open and includes everyone who has a stake in it, including all 12 recognized political parties in the state, who have hired more than 1.6 lakh booth-level agents. The ECI has said that the SIR process is meant to make sure that the voter rolls are correct and that “every eligible voter” will be included.
Rahul Gandhi said earlier this month that the ECI was working with the BJP to commit voting fraud. He pointed to an inquiry by the Congress party in the Mahadevapura Assembly district in Karnataka. The Supreme Court has since told the ECI to make the names and grounds for taking 65 lakh persons off the voter rolls public.
