Ease Of Justice Key To Ease Of Living And Business, Says PM Modi At Supreme Court Conference

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the National Conference on ‘Strengthening Legal Aid Delivery Mechanisms’ at the Supreme Court of India, emphasizing that ease of doing business and ease of living are only possible when there is ease of justice for every citizen.

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said that in the past few years, the government has taken several significant steps to make justice delivery faster, more transparent, and accessible. He noted that the justice system is a vital pillar of democracy, and ensuring timely justice is crucial for both individual well-being and the nation’s progress.

“The concept of ease of doing business and ease of living can only be meaningful when people have confidence in the ease of justice,” PM Modi said, stressing that the government is committed to ensuring that legal aid reaches the poorest and most vulnerable sections of society.

⚖️ Focus on Legal Aid and Access to Justice

The conference aims to bring together judges, legal aid professionals, policymakers, and social workers to discuss ways to enhance the efficiency and reach of legal aid delivery mechanisms.

PM Modi highlighted the importance of technology-driven justice reforms, such as virtual hearings, e-courts, and online legal aid services, which have made justice more accessible, especially during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

He also appreciated the efforts of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee (SCLSC) in working towards a justice system that is inclusive and citizen-centric.

💬 PM Modi on Judicial Reforms

The Prime Minister noted that over the past decade, India’s legal framework has undergone major reforms — from simplification of laws to digital case management systems — making the system more efficient.

He said, “Legal aid should not remain a privilege of the few. It must be a right accessible to all. Our goal should be to ensure that no one is deprived of justice due to lack of awareness or financial constraints.”

PM Modi also urged collaboration between judicial institutions, government agencies, and civil society organizations to make legal services more responsive and people-friendly.

Conclusion

The National Conference, attended by Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, and several senior judges, marks a crucial step in strengthening India’s legal aid ecosystem. It reinforces the government’s commitment to ensuring that **“justice for all” becomes not just a constitutional promise but a lived reality.
