New Delhi [India], April 22: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mentor Dwayne Bravo commended his bowling unit for restricting Gujarat Titans (GT) to under 200 runs in their IPL clash on Monday, even though KKR eventually fell short in the chase.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Bravo expressed pride in his bowlers’ efforts. “Jason and the rest of our bowling group did a fantastic job. Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan batted brilliantly, but credit to our bowlers—they pulled it back and gave us a fighting chance. At the halfway mark, we felt like the happier team,” he said.
However, Bravo admitted that the batting unit failed to deliver. “Unfortunately, we didn’t get the start we needed during the power play, and then we slowed down in the middle overs. That hurt us in the end.”
Bravo also spoke about the team’s strategic use of left-right combinations in the batting order to counter GT’s spin attack. “We’re fortunate to have quality left-handers and right-handers in our top order. Against a team with both left-arm spin and leg-spin options, it’s essential to disrupt their rhythm.”
In the match held at Eden Gardens, GT posted 198/3 with standout knocks from captain Shubman Gill (90), Sai Sudharsan (52), and Jos Buttler (41*). KKR’s chase faltered early and never recovered despite a lone 50 from captain Ajinkya Rahane. They finished at 159/8, falling short by 39 runs.
Prasidh Krishna and Rashid Khan were instrumental in sealing the win for GT with two wickets apiece. With this victory, GT stayed atop the points table with six wins from eight games, while KKR dropped to seventh position, managing only three wins out of eight.
