“Drugs Will Be Eradicated Forever”: Kejriwal Declares War on Drug Trade in Punjab

AAP government intensifies crackdown on drug peddlers, demolishes illegal properties linked to narcotics trade, and expands rehabilitation efforts across Punjab.

New Delhi, March 2Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday issued a strong warning against drug peddlers, asserting that the Punjab government is committed to wiping out the drug menace from the state.

“Our government has launched a great war against drugs in Punjab. Drugs have ruined a large number of our youth and children. Those who sell drugs will not be spared. Drugs will be eradicated from Punjab forever,” Kejriwal said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Punjab Police Crack Down on Drug Peddlers

As part of the intensified anti-drug campaign, the Punjab Police, in coordination with district authorities, demolished two illegal properties belonging to notorious drug peddlers in Khanpur village, Phillaur Tehsil, Jalandhar district.

According to Phillaur Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sarwan Singh, drug traffickers had illegally encroached upon land in two villages. Among those targeted:

  • Jasvir Sheera, a notorious drug smuggler, whose house in Khanpur was razed to the ground.
  • A woman drug supplier, whose illegally built property in another village was also demolished.

“Drug suppliers have encroached in two villages. A drug supplier identified as Jasvir Sheera had built a house here; it has been demolished. In another village, a woman drug peddler had built a house, and we are demolishing that as well. This is a clear message from the police—if anybody has built properties with drug money or illegal funds, we will take action,” DSP Singh told ANI.

Continued Action Against Drug Mafia

This crackdown follows an earlier operation on February 24, when Punjab Police and the administration demolished illegal properties linked to a notorious drug smuggler, Sonu of Talwandi village.

According to AAP officials, Sonu had been involved in drug-related activities for three years and faced multiple criminal cases. Six FIRs have been registered against him. Authorities have vowed to continue dismantling drug networks to ensure the safety and security of Punjab’s communities.

Punjab Government Launches Comprehensive Anti-Drug Initiative

In a parallel move, the Punjab government has announced a large-scale crackdown on drug abuse, instructing law enforcement agencies to intensify their efforts against drug trafficking.

Additionally, the government is focusing on rehabilitation and de-addiction measures. District administrations have been directed to ensure the availability of adequate rehab and de-addiction facilities, equipped with:

  • Buprenorphine medicine
  • Drug testing kits
  • Specialized medical staff

A senior IAS officer has been assigned to inspect all rehabilitation centers and oversee their preparedness.

“A Drug-Free Punjab is Our Mission”

With a zero-tolerance policy towards drug peddling, the AAP-led Punjab government is determined to uproot the narcotics trade while providing support for those struggling with addiction.

As Punjab steps up its war against drugs, all eyes are on whether these measures will successfully curb drug trafficking and bring lasting change to the state.
