Superstar Mohanlal has officially announced the release date of Drishyam 3, the much-awaited third instalment of the blockbuster Malayalam thriller franchise. The film is set for a worldwide theatrical release on April 2, 2026.
Making the announcement on Wednesday, Mohanlal took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle and shared a striking line that instantly caught fans’ attention.

Notably, Mohanlal began work on Drishyam 3 on the eve of receiving Indian cinema’s highest honour, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, last year—adding further significance to the project in his illustrious career.
Film Launched with Traditional Puja in 2025
The third chapter of the critically acclaimed franchise was formally launched in September 2025 with a traditional puja ceremony at a law college near Kochi. The event marked the official beginning of production and was attended by key members of the cast and crew.
Director Jeethu Joseph, who has helmed all three films in the series, shed light on the storyline while addressing the media ahead of the launch.
“The film focuses on what happens in Georgekutty’s life after four-and-a-half years. That is the crux of the story,” Joseph explained.
Georgekutty, portrayed by Mohanlal, remains one of the most iconic characters in Indian cinema, known for his intelligence, emotional depth, and moral complexity.
Producers Confirm Strong Storyline Drove Third Instalment
Producer Antony Perumbavoor, a long-time collaborator of Mohanlal and a driving force behind the franchise, said the decision to make Drishyam 3 was taken only after extensive deliberations.
“The phenomenal response to the first two parts convinced us that Georgekutty’s journey had more to tell. Only after detailed discussions with Jeethu did we finalise this new version,” Perumbavoor stated.
The film was shot across multiple scenic locations in Thodupuzha and Vagamon, with the final five-day shooting schedule completed in Ernakulam.
Hindi Version Also in the Pipeline
Meanwhile, fans of the Hindi adaptation can also look forward to the third instalment. The Hindi version of Drishyam 3, starring Ajay Devgn, is slated for a theatrical release on October 2, 2026.
With the return of Mohanlal as Georgekutty and Jeethu Joseph at the helm, expectations are sky-high for Drishyam 3, which promises to delve deeper into the consequences of the past and the evolution of its central character.
