Washington [US]: Actor Drew Barrymore has shared heartfelt memories about her time working on the 1994 film Bad Girls, directed by Jonathan Kaplan, describing it as a life-changing experience.
Speaking to People, Barrymore said, “When we did Bad Girls, I was 16. I was such a dumbass,” recalling her youthful inexperience at the time. She emphasized the significance of the role in shaping her career. “I always talk about how much it changed my life. If I hadn’t done that film, there’s no way I’d be sitting here right now.”
About Bad Girls
The film, directed by Jonathan Kaplan, follows the journey of four prostitutes—Cody (Madeleine Stowe), Anita (Mary Stuart Masterson), Eileen (Andie MacDowell), and Lilly (Drew Barrymore)—who come together as the ‘Honky-Tonk Harlots’ in their pursuit of a better life. However, their plans are thwarted when two detectives are hired to track them down.
Barrymore’s Reflections
Barrymore expressed how the experience of working on the film served as a turning point in her life. “It was that film that showed me if you care about something, be involved,” she noted. She described the movie set as her “school,” where she learned the intricacies of filmmaking.
“Even though it was so skewed and bizarre and sort of surreal,” she said, “it was very educational for me about how it all works.”
Past Reunions
This isn’t the first time Barrymore has reflected on Bad Girls. In January of last year, she welcomed co-stars Andie MacDowell and Mary Stuart Masterson on her talk show, The Drew Barrymore Show.
Barrymore concluded, “I feel like my whole life changed the most dramatically. I can trace it back to that experience with you.”
