Delhi Police Implements Robust Security Measures For New Year 2025 Celebrations

New Delhi [India]: As New Delhi gears up to usher in the New Year 2025, the Delhi Police has put in place extensive security arrangements to ensure a safe and enjoyable celebration across the city. Key areas such as Hauz Khas, Connaught Place, and Lajpat Nagar are expected to attract large crowds during the festivities.

DCP South West Surendra Chaudhary outlined the security measures, stating, “We have briefed restaurant owners and staff about the protocols. In collaboration with the traffic police, we have deployed a facial recognition system (FRS) van to identify any people with criminal backgrounds who may visit the area.”

Additionally, 60 surveillance cameras have been installed in critical zones, and senior officers, including SHOs, will be present on the ground. “Through loudspeakers, we will also address the gathering if necessary,” Chaudhary added.

To promote road safety, 27 checkpoints equipped with breath analyzers have been established to deter drunk driving. Fourteen Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) and 16 Police Control Room (PCR) vans have been strategically stationed for rapid response in case of emergencies.

Enhanced Surveillance at Key Locations

Special attention is being given to 35 celebration venues and 15 high-footfall locations such as malls, motels, and cinema halls, all of which will be under strict surveillance. Security personnel have been stationed at 21 bus stops, while 60 motorcycle patrols monitor vulnerable routes.

Hauz Khas Village, a popular nightlife hub, will see heightened security, and eight prominent hotels will have a visible police presence to ensure safety.

Deployment Overview

The comprehensive security plan involves a robust deployment of personnel, including:

  • 7 Assistant Commissioners of Police
  • 38 Inspectors
  • 329 Sub-Inspectors and Assistant Sub-Inspectors
  • 161 female officers

Regular beat patrols and vehicle patrols will enhance visibility and ensure quick response capabilities.

Appeal to Residents

Authorities have urged residents to celebrate responsibly and cooperate with deployed personnel. They have encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities to nearby officers or through the 24/7 helpline number 112.

Alcohol-Related Concerns

While New Year celebrations are marked by enthusiasm across urban India, they are often accompanied by an increase in alcohol consumption, sometimes leading to issues such as drunk driving and alcohol smuggling. The Delhi Police has emphasized strict enforcement to curb such incidents.
