Fresh violence erupted along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border late Tuesday, leading to the deaths of dozens of people, including civilians and security personnel, according to official sources on both sides.
The clashes reportedly began overnight when Afghanistan-based militants and Taliban fighters launched coordinated attacks on major Pakistani border posts in both the southwest and northwest regions. Pakistan’s military stated that it successfully repelled the assaults, killing approximately 20 Taliban fighters near Spin Boldak in Afghanistan’s southern Kandahar province.
A military statement released by Pakistan noted that the attacks originated from divided villages in the region, showing “no regard for the civil population.” The military further claimed that an estimated 30 more attackers were likely killed in ongoing confrontations along the northwest border.
Meanwhile, Afghan officials confirmed to AFP that at least 15 civilians had been killed and dozens more injured in the intensified cross-border violence. The latest hostilities add to the already tense relations between the two neighboring countries, particularly over border management and militant movements.
