Donald Trump Predicts Imminent Israel-Iran Peace Deal, Claims Credit For Global Diplomatic Successes

US President Donald Trump has claimed that a historic peace deal between Israel and Iran is “soon” to be brokered, citing ongoing “calls and meetings” as signs of progress. The surprising announcement was made via his social media platform, Truth Social, on Sunday (local time).

“We will have PEACE, soon, between Israel and Iran! Many calls and meetings now taking place. I do a lot, and never get credit for anything, but that’s OK, the PEOPLE understand. MAKE THE MIDDLE EAST GREAT AGAIN!” Trump wrote.

Trump suggested that his diplomatic efforts were instrumental in easing tensions between multiple global adversaries, including India and Pakistan, though these claims have been officially disputed by New Delhi.

India Dismisses Trump’s Mediation Claims

Trump controversially asserted that he brokered a ceasefire between India and Pakistan by leveraging trade ties with the US to encourage dialogue. However, the Indian government has firmly denied this claim.

India clarified that the 2021 ceasefire understanding along the Line of Control was reached through direct talks between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of the two countries, without any US mediation.

Earlier this month, an Indian All-Party Delegation, led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, met with US Vice President JD Vance in Washington to reinforce India’s official stance.

“The meeting with Vice President Vance was outstanding… We made our position amply clear on this question of mediation, and Vice President Vance fully understood our points,” Tharoor told media after the meeting.

Trump’s Additional Diplomatic Claims

In the same post, Trump took credit for:

  • Preventing war between Serbia and Kosovo, although international records show no direct US mediation during his term in this regard.
  • Easing tensions between Egypt and Ethiopia over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) project on the Nile River — a claim not substantiated by either country’s official sources.

“There is peace, at least for now, because of my intervention, and it will stay that way!” Trump wrote.

Context: Iran-Israel Tensions and Netanyahu’s Claims

Trump’s peace claims come amid heightened Israel-Iran tensions. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu recently told Fox News that Iran’s regime viewed Trump as “enemy number one”, allegedly targeting him for assassination due to his hardline policies, including the killing of Qasem Soleimani and the withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal.

“They want to kill him. He’s enemy number one. He’s a decisive leader… He killed Qasem Soleimani,” Netanyahu said.

Amid these developments, Israeli airstrikes in Iran reportedly killed top IRGC intelligence commanders, and Iran retaliated with ballistic missile attacks on Israeli cities, escalating fears of a broader regional conflict.

Criticism and Caution

Trump’s comments have drawn skepticism from diplomats and analysts, who note that many of his claims lack verifiable evidence and are not acknowledged by official international sources.
